I don't know how many numbers you are dealing with, but one possibility
might be to add a class in the style sheet:

SPAN.numbers {font-family: arial}

and then in the document at the beginning of the desired number:  <SPAN
CLASS="numbers">number</span>

This would work within a paragraph, heading, etc., and would allow your
style sheet to control the appearance of the numbers.

I don't know if there is a LANG property:value for style sheets, but if
there is, perhaps it would work to set the language value for English and
then use that for your numbers.  Perhaps someone else on the list knows the
answer to that one.
