Rotating images, not rotating banner ads

Hi,

I would like to set up an automatic rotation of images on my site. What we
have are clients who pay into a directory type website and one of the
features we wish to offer is to have 6 different ads on the 'front page' of
a category (3 different categories). So in other words if someone clicks on
the 'Dining' link then they are taken to the page with the six different
ads. I need this to also be rotating randomly to a different image per visit
to that category, so if 100 people visited my site they would all see
different ads each time they went to the 'Dining' link.

I've looked at the various rotating banner ad cgi scripts that are
commercially available but they account for such things as billing the
customer per clickthrough and many other features I don't need. I just want
to rotate the image...and possibly track how many clicks each image gets, if
any.

Any suggestions would be appreciated,

Phil

P.S. Although my first choice is to buy a package for commercial use I do
have some (limited) CGI (Perl) experience so if it's not too much coding in
doing something like this I wouldn't be opposed to typing it out myself. Any
advice on that would be welcome also.
