Hello Marty,
Editing the registry file will work fine,
If your not comfortable with opening the
registry file another way might be as follows:-
(Win98)
1) Select the My Computer Icon from the desktop
2) Select the "View" tab
3) Select "Folder Options"
4) Select the "File Types" tab

And this is where you can
Add/Edit/Remove
All of windows file associations.
