Updating the file that a link points to

I have a link on my homepage that points to a folder which contains a number
of different pages.  I would like a link on my page that points to the most
recent file created in that folder.  Currently, each time I put a new file
in the folder, every few hours, I have to update the link to  point to the
new file.  Apart from renaming the file every time I update it is there
anything else I can do, Javascript, etc etc
