Animated gif in N and IE on Mac

Hi,

Does anybody know why an animated gif set to loop a specific number of
times, loops this exact number of times in Netscape 4.7 on a Mac, but one
time less in IE 5 on a Mac?
I don't have the actual gif here, but it is a 4 frame animated gif set to
loop 3 times, and it does so in N, but it loops only 2 times in IE.

Any ideas?
