Chip,

I think someone else has answered your specfic point, but here is a hint
that I've found useful.

Sometimes it helps if you add a zero-width border in the same background
colour to the style - does nothing in IE/Opera, but can help "pad out" the
bgcolor in NS4.7.

I use this for footer areas with a background colour quite often.

BTW, if you use TopStyle to validate a style sheet, it often comes up with
helpful hints on what might or might not work in various browsers. Not 100%
effective, but often useful.
