I follow the guidelines laid down in the Chicago manual of style
(7.157-7.160)

My reading of this is that  when a computer term becomes a familiar
word it goes to lower case.

More controversial is WWW. (An Acronym). Should it be full caps, small
caps, orhas it sufficient familiarity to go to lower case.
