My less than 2 year-old 17" CRT started up one morning in
November with everything a lovely greenish tone. To replace
it, I did some research on LCD's, asked around on my 3D
forums and talked to the owner of my favorite computer
store. I ended up getting a 17" 1280 X 1024 LCD and after a
day or two of getting used to the high resolution love it.
A 17" LCD has more real estate than a 17" CRT and I don't
need a higher resolution than 1280 X 1024.

The best thing is that I don't get headaches and sore eyes
from using it all day like I did with the CRT, the colors
are beautiful, it's clear, doesn't take up much room (an
important point) and runs cooler. It was $350 but I get a
pretty good price from this one store. So, it might be a
crappy one, but it is far superior to the CRT I had. I too
thought that they do not last as long as a CRT (the owner of
the store has been using the same one for 3 years) but if it
lasts two years I'll be happy since there will probably be
something better I'd rather have by then anyway.
