I know he tried making the source unreadable by removing all the
newlines.  Since Perl is Open Source and non-compiled, the only
way to really make a license work is to make it so hard for
someone to alter the source code they give up.  Of course, this
isn't the best way to achieve efficiency, as you certainly need to
make the source more convoluted than necessary.

OTH, removing the newlines might actually decrease parsing times a
hair...:).

In any case, Nancy's right that it's a simple-to-use and reliable
program.  Fairly large (150k last I checked) and way too much
emphasis on protecting the source, and a backdoor is not a good
thing, but certainly proven software.

There is some concern with Dansie, as apparently there is a
back-door for the author to check and see if someone is following
the license agreement. This also has the potential of allowing
access to others as well.

This article was written last year so not sure if the situation
has been rectified, but it is something to be aware of -- and
checking into -- before purchasing the script.
