Background GIF makes Opera 5 run slowly

Hello,

I've just looked at one of my sites in Opera 5.0, and the browser works
incredibly slowly while the page is loaded.  The mouse moves slowly, the
menus appear slowly, the scrollbar works slowly.

I finally tracked it down to the background image.  It's a 1600x1200px GIF
image, 8Kb file size.  Removing the background attribute from the body tag
fixes the problem.

Anyone seen this before?  Know a solution?
