Sunil:
I have very selectively and carefully begun trying other registrars at the
beginning of this year in order to save money. I have now registered many
names with alternative registrars and so far have had no problems at all. I
have registered one with godaddy but am leary because their price is SO low.
I have been very pleased with buydomains.com and have registered and
transferred many domains with them. Their password protection system seems
safe enough. Be aware though, that if your domain name is expiring within
two weeks, Network Solutions will reject your transfer request...(they have
a week to review your transfer request and if your name expires within 7
days after that, they can reject your request) so transfer early! I assume
that if you register a domain with a registrar who eventually goes out of
business, that domain will not be rendered unusable. You can preregister it
with Network Solutions and then repurchase it from NetSol when it expires.
HTH!
