>>>And those concepts are universal, well understood, but unfortunately, not
used by many anymore. :)<<<

The part about learning from the past makes sense...but "universal"
encompasses the entire global audience, and that's a bit new for any medium.
Colors in the US mean different things to people there than they do to
people in China, or Africa. Art has a claim on internationalism, if only
because every culture seems to have it in one form or another, but concepts
like body language or attaching meaning to colors are a bit suspect in our
environment.

I entered web design from a programming background. I have found that to be
successful requires a holistic approach, including graphics, coding,
programming, systems administration, and more. Included in there is a study
of traditional media, and an interest in how people respond to it...if only
because it's a fascinating subject.

Also included is an attitude that this is a whole new ballgame. Today we
are looking at pictures, and some of them even move. Tomorrow, we may be
donning VR helmets, and within 20 years we may be wearing our connection to
the Net internally. I think that the essential ingredient to success for
any of us is a willingness to keep learning, and to learn from any source we
can....just to avoid being left behind.
