I have GoBack installed on my machine...it came with my Gateway. I was told
by Gateway that it would not work with WindowsME, so I stayed with WinSE.
Here's why: I have a small child & only one puter for both of us to use at
home. This program works way better than reg restore or any other
restoration program I have found so far. You can choose a time when your
computer was working the way you want it to, even restoring an uninstalled
program. Everything goes exactly back the way it was...except new stuff
like downloaded items are still there too. (Don't ask me how they accomplish
that!)

| Hi Ben -
|
| I use OnStream "ECHO" http://www.onstream.com/ 30 GB USB It's a pain
| in the
| butt: shutting down the computer at the end of the day takes a very long
| time
| because the program is updating its data base, it causes the computer to
| hang
| on shutdown (this is a real pain), deleting a program using CleanSweep
| is
| impossible because of the way the two programs interact, when I have it
| installed I get all kinds of system lockups and blue screens, and on and
| on.
| Yet, until I can afford another solution, I use it. Once a week, I
| install it,
| make a complete backup of my hard drive (this takes a looong time, I
| start the
| process when I go to bed and usually it is finished when I get up) and
| then
| remove the program.
|
| I have had to use it once. After a disastrous registry corruption I had
| to
| reformat. After I loaded my regular programs back on, I installed the
| OnStream,
| pulled off copies of all my files and I was good as new. With the
| exception of
| the files that were not saved between the last complete backup and the
| crash.
|
| To be fair to OnStream, I have to say that other people use the OnStream
| system
| and like it. See hwg-techniques-digest V1 #970
|
| Also a search for "backup" on the list archives yield 65 matches. Maybe
| you can
| get some more info there that would be applicable to your particular
| situation.
