1) I write very few plain old static HTML pages anymore. There's just so
much more that can be done when the site is intereactive.

2) Computers respond badly to bugs. Well-formed code helps control bugs by
providing a more solid framework within which to catch them.

3) Communication requires a common understanding. Standardization provides
a bridge between software applications, allowing more universal
communication.

4) WAP and similar protocols will require delivery of content in different
format than browsers (HTML) use. Understanding XHTML and XML will allow you
to provide content to different platforms form the same document.

5) Browser variations have inflated the price and complexity of web design
beyond what it needs to be. Introducing a few simle standards, such as well
formed HTML (XHTML) will help bring this inflationary wildfire back into
proportion.

6) Simple common sense (to me, anyway!) insists that a language designed to
be used with a computer adhere to common standards. Computers work more
efficiently with efficient code.

Someone else take over, please...?

Hi,

I'm part of a team of volunteers providing support and tutorials at my ISP.
One of the members of the team believes that HTML should be coded with the
tags in UPPERCASE. She won't accept that it might be better to code in
lower
case, as it isn't part of the HTML 4 standard. She also believes that the
XHTML spec is a load of rubbish, and sent this link
(http://www.alistapart.com/stories/xhtml/index.html) to prove her point.
