Oh I agree with Jim. I just recently dived into XHTML and have had a blast
with it. I also finally after much resistance on my part have been working
with Style Sheets. The real fun part is when you validate them. It has
been a challenge that I have really enjoyed. And when you sit back and look
at the beauty of it. Not having all those font tags is a blessing. Style
sheets are powerful, but you really have to play with them to make them work
in the different browsers. I do all my sites in Arachnophilia, and so it
had sort of gotten stagnant for me. Once I got into XHTML, it was nothing
to covert all my buttons and shortcuts in the program to code in XHTML. The
nice thing is it truly makes things flow faster and smother in my mind.
When I look at a page I have converted to one that isn't, the difference is
very noticible. But this is my opinion.

Converting my sites over was not only a challenge but a learning experience.
I have really spent long sleepless nights, fussing over it, confronting
problems, and working things out. But once done, It only spurred me on to
do the next site. Before it is over with, I will have converted all of
them. Learning new things is a real kick! It is the challenge of it that
is so much fun!

Don't give up on XHTML. It's the way the go and the beautiful thing is is
that it is capable of being cross-browser compatible. Look at your CSS more
closely as that appears to be your main problem; but we DON'T want to
regress back to <font> tags.

I recently wrote to the basics list to ask for help with an XHTML site,
which I eventually had to downgrade to HTML because the client uses Netscape
4.7. This incident has put some serious doubts in my mind about a couple of
sites I am working on right now.

This particular one,
http://www.yunque.net/casadepalabras/nsat/content/about/about.html
not only looks horrible in Netscape 4.x, but causes an error to close down
the browser. I am almost sure it has to do with my use of style sheets, but

wanted to check up with you guys, since I am still in the beginning stages
of putting the site together.

So I ask you this: Please look at the site and tell me if you think I should
go back and scrap my style sheets for font tags and more mundane methods of
positioning? Or, should I forge ahead with the site, concentrating on
validation and accessibility, and create a simple page and redirect older
browsers to it?

At this point, all of the pages almost validate - that is, except for the
topmargin, leftmargin, marginheight and marginwidth tags (which I added for
the benefit of older browsers!). I must solve this dilema, not only to
provide a good service to this client, but because another site I will soon
begin is my ISP's, and it needs to be viewable using the most browsers
possible.
