Using PHP, you can combine the cookie with PHP sessions, using URL
propagation to carry the session ID form page-to-page transparently. Even
without PHP, you can manually assign a session ID to every link and form in
the site, thus maintaining state from click-to-click.

Of course, that would still require them to log in at every visit, but
that's not too much to ask if cookies are disabled.

Beware IP-based identification plans as many users share IP addresses
nowadays.

Subject: access to member pages only

Hi all,

I have a client who wants to have a "members" only section. He has a public
area, and wants to provide a section where only paid members can access. I
am not sure how to do this.

My idea was to prompt the member for a password (saved in a DB) to get into
the first page, and save a cookie on his machine which will be checked by
all subsequent pages in that section. My concern is if the member has
cookies turned off.

Is this the way to do it, or are there other options?

thanks

Nate
