problems. Yeh we know that AOL screws up our work for others to see on
their machines, but truly has not been a problem while developing new
content, pages or graphics in other development applications or in my IE
browser. NN seems to work ok as well. I use Textpad for markup.<<<

Yeah, Don...it doesn't seem to be consistant. In an earlier post, I
sent a link to an article that stated the author was unable to
successfully install AOL 5 on a clean system in the first attempt, but
after reformatting, he got it installed successfully on an identical
(from mirrored backup) system. So, you hit it lucky..:). You should
read through the list of changes he documented, though...the
installation actually did alter quite a few essential files with no
apparent reason except to further isolate the user form the real
Internet.

Essentially, the problem seems to be that the installation requires
extensive changes to the OS files. Given Win98's instability to begin
with, and the variety of applications developers use, it's bound to be a
risky process. I tried it once last year with 4.0, I think, and had to
reformat. While I have all kinds of backups, that kind of hit-or-miss
solutions is exactly what I want to avoid.

I'm looking to tap all the brains on this list for the best possible
solution to the problem of checking pages in an AOL browser without
permanently configuring my main machine for AOL. So far, I seem to be
leaning toward using a secondary machine for this, maybe a low end
Pentium, Win95, IE 4.x (and maybe NN 4.x, IE 3.x, etc), and AOL5,
connecting outbound through my shop LAN using AOL's 'nother IP plan, or
even without joining at all: just using the browser locally.
