Virginia,

First, is the mod_rewrite module part of your Apache installation? If
not, then you will need to add that module to your Apache web server.
You can test this with the command httpd -l from a command line.

Second, did you insert it into the httpd.conf or a .htaccess file?
If it is in the httpd.conf, then did you restart the server?
If it is in the .htaccess file, then what is your AllowOverride setting
for where you are using the .htaccess file?

This didn't work. Does it work with a URL like search.atomz.com?
