You know this is very interesting.  As I have been toiling over this now for
the last year.
Last year I had a young college student who was in her third year of web
developement.  She wanted to intern with me and I gladly accepted her.  She
came to me with tons of knowledge of her software, and her equipment (which
was all mac), and didn't have the slightest clue how to code a page in a
text editor.  Not even the basics.

I have since talked to a couple of students this year who have been calling
wanting to intern, and it has become an issue.  They can use this software
wonderfully.  Mostly Front Page and Dreamweaver.   Teaching the fundamental
basics is way more important in my mind. This is sort of scarey.

I agree with those who say XHTML.  That is the way to go.
