Javascript Last Modified Date - External File

(OOPS, I posted this with the wrong subject, so am repeating with a
more appropriate subject. Sorry for the confusion...)

My question is this: I know how to get the "last modified" date for a
file using Javascript... but what I *want* to be able to do, is get
the last modified date for a javascript file itself that's being
imported into an HTML document.

Anyone with any experience on this one?
