If anyone has thoughts on this, I am open to any
suggestions because I have run out of ideas.

A few days ago, I was uninstalling software on one of
our home PCs and accidentally uninstalled something
that affected the number of colors and resolution on
the monitor. Before we had choices of 256-color,
16-bit and 32-bit on 800 x 600 or higher. Now, we can
only obtain 16 colors on 460 x 680. I was able to
find on the internet the driver for our specific
Sceptre monitor and download it. However, I did not
know what type of video card was inside the Mitsuba
computer and what type of driver would be appropriate.
It was defaulting to a generic Standard PCI Graphics
Adapter VGA (vga.drv).

My husband and I thought if we bought a new video card
and installed it and the driver that this would fix
the problem. He successfully installed a Guillemot
Graphics Card 2D/3D AGP & PCI with its driver.
However, this has not solved it. In the user's manual
for the video card it states: "Certain graphics cards
are integrated on the PC motherboard and thus cannot
be physically uninstalled. You will need to contact
your PC manufacturer for details on how to disable
these chipsets." (I have sent an email to Mitsuba but
do not have much hope because their web site makes it
clear that end users are suppose to go through the
dealer not the manufacturer. Unfortunately, there is
no dealer because it was purchased through an employer
subsidized training program.)

Also under device manager, we have removed the old
display adapter driver listing. I tried to manually
change the memory allocation to 00000000 -- 0000FFFF,
but it does not seem to stay even with the
automatically set box unchecked.

If this helps, the equipment we have is an IN620
Advanced Motherboard Pentium II / III with Intel
Celeron Processor Windows '98 on a Mitsuba.

Your guidance would be greatly appreciated because I
am not a hardware person, unfortunately. Many thanks
in advance.

Regards,
Susan V.
