passing ASP variable to Javascript variable

I've got this problem that is driving me nuts.  

I have an ASP page.  I found a javascript function
that does what I want - only there is a variable (y)
within the function that I need to set dynamically. 
The value for that variable is in my ASP code.  

The javascript is called on the body onload <.body
onload='init();'>  

How to I pass my ASP variable x to my javascript
variable y???
