A slightly different slant...

I do web pages for little people. Some of these have something to sell,
others just want to brag a little or share an interest.

These are people who only need a simple page or two to tell their story to
the world and illustrate it if necessary. I give them clearly readable text
and the best pics I can provide with camera, scanner and Phtotshop. I link
them to others sites (with the others' permissions) and add "favor" links
as necessary. The only "bells and whistles" I ever provide are small
animated GIFs.

I don't need to learn xml, flash, java, perl, asp, etc., etc., etc...to
keep these people happy. Simple rule-conforming html does just fine. I
believe firmly in K.I.S.S.!

So...I'm really concerned with all this talk of what a professional is. It
appears that "professional" is coming to mean someone who can do all those
"bells and whistles" (for want of a better term) and charges big bucks for
it. MY people could never afford to pay this kind of professional and don't
even have the basic mindsets that would allow them to create a website with
a wysiwyg program!

As to why I am even on this list...I learn here how to pick my path through
all the "latest and greatest" and still provide what MY people need. If a
day comes when there is no more "simple html" the Internet is gonna lose a
BIG bunch of little people.
