non-scrolling frame in NN

I'm using a two-frame set-up with the left side for navigation.  In the 
left frame, I've got a nice little Javascript for a Category/Menu system -- 
one clicks on a category and a more detailed menu drops down.  Problem is 
that in NN the left frame won't open for scrolling once enough categories 
are opened that the links drop down off the screen.  Everything works 
perfectly in IE5.  In the frameset, I tried changing it from

  scrolling="auto" to scrolling="yes"

but to no avail.  Any help would be most appreciated.
