If we talk about alternate authoring tools for Flash, Illustrator 9 now
exports to the SWF format. I have yet to try it out, but I know it will do
so. Also good for creating in Illustrator, then exporting to Flash for
further work.
Good luck with Flash. I know I will be learning it soon myself.
