They have to be set up as separate entries like this:

a.text:link
a.text:hover
a.text:visited
a.text:active
a.link
a.hover ...etc.

Then use class="text" for the links that you've marked with or without the 
hover.  It's hard to explain coherently but see what I did at 
http://www.businessheadquarters.com/clubfitnessonline/index.html.
