No, Peter, you can't get at .uk domain. But if you're looking for 
alternatives to .co.uk, .org.uk and the international TLDs (because someone's 
snaffled your cherished name already, perhaps!) you might like to know that 
.uk.com, .uk.net, .gb.com and .gb.net are available from Nomination 
(www.nomination.net). You don't actually buy the domain from them ('cos what 
you're getting is actually a subdomain); they just charge you for pointing it 
to an IP address. You can register directly from them or through agents such 
as www.freeparking.co.uk (which itself has some useful services).

I used this approach for a company when the .com, .net, .co.uk and .net.uk 
derivatives of the company name had already been taken.
