|Why do you need to know the nuts-and-bolts of HTML?

<snipped>

I usually don't take part in these debates but I am going to jump into this
one. When I first started learning HTML about 8 months ago, I felt the same
way. I could cut and paste with the best of them and turn out decent
looking pages so why did I need to know anything? Boy was I wrong! That
might work well enough for home pages but if you are going to do this for a
career, you most definately need a solid working knowledge of HTML. To see
the difference just a little knowledge makes, take a look at my first site
at http://www.geocities.com/EnchantedForest/Tower/1252 which is cut and
paste heaven. Then look at my latest at
http://www.angelfire.com/biz2/artwellscp/ The latter of the two was done
after completing the Guild's Intro to HTML 4.0 class and using some of the
things I have learned in the Intro to CSS class. There is a remarkable
difference in the two. So much so that I am almost ashamed to take credit
for the first one :)
