Hmm - seems we haven't had a good debate here in ages!
I'll admit M$ threw a spanner in the works of the Netscape version
progression, but when checking out a few old links the other day I
rediscovered this article from the guru of the internet:

"A particularly interesting aspect of the predictions is that Netscape 5
is a 'lost generation'"
I was always cynical about Netscape's inability to bring out V5 because a
successful browser would have hampered their case against
Microsoft. However, could this article (or perhaps this way of thinking)
have influenced their numbering system?
