Well, not really, Strict and XML are different entities
entirely, and in fact HTML had "Strict" before XHTML was
ever conceived. The real scoop behind Strict is that you
are meant to use Strict + CSS, and the presence of XML
really isn't a factor then.
XHTML -- Transitional, Strict, or Frameset -- has the full
benefits of XML regardless of "flavor". In fact, there may
be an argument to be made that using Transitional XHTML could
make it _easier_ to convert to WML or other XML-based languages!
(Why? Because the style information in Transitional is
contained within the XML-based attributes of XHTML, but in
Strict, all the style information is in CSS, which is not
XML-based and thus it's harder to incorporate into an
XML transformation. In Transitional, the style information
is available to the XML processor; in Strict, it's all just
unparsed CDATA.)

Maybe, I dunno. "Trees" are appropriate for XML discussions!

As I said before, I think there shouldn't be any problem
specific to the "X" in XHTML that would make it hard to
validate. If you shared which validation errors you were
specifically getting, I'm sure we could help you debug.
