On DTDs

Hi guys,

We are currently working on converting a relatively large (3500 pages) 
survey (13 volumes, scholarly text -books-) to text and I was wondering if 
anybody had an opinion on a DTD to use.  We are currently looking at TEI 
(lite). [Text Encoding Initiative]  We would like to be able to choose a 
DTD that can be generalized to be able to encode many different types of 
textual information so that we can standardize on one DTD for the majority 
of our work.
