Looking for database expert

I need help with a database situation that involves importing information 
from a very old database program with a very simple field structure that has 
been "abused" by the users who didn't pay attention to field definitions into 
a new database that is more structured and specific. We're looking for a way 
to change lemons into lemonade so that someone doesn't have to spend hours 
and hours re-entering over 1400 records to make the whole thing work.
