FrontPage XP FTP vs. Cute FPT vs. WS_FPT.

Good morning,

I have a conceptual/technical question on the topic of FTPing files to
my host.

I have been hosting now with a very nice company on the east coast (I
live in Minnesota.)

For almost 8 weeks now when using CuteFTP or WS_FPT to upload, download
or delete files the process would come to a halt. It was a major pain
in the neck because you would have to reconnect and then not be sure
where the process had left off without rummaging around to see which
files had what dates/times etc.

I contacted the host, and they did whatever it is that they do to check
their end of it and their response was "we can't find any problem." Now
I might have been a bit skeptical but I use a monitoring system on my
sites and the sites have always been "up." I concluded that if the
sites are up and accessed without any problems (no calls or complaints
from clients, server logs didn't show any problems, etc), then the
FTPing problem was isolated to just me.

Moving on here, yesterday I tried FrontPage XP's FTPing tool for the
first time. I was amazed. The files went up without a hitch. No
choking whatsoever on the server side. I am not using FrontPage
extensions, so I don't think that is an issue. My question to you all
is this; what is different about the way FrontPage's FTP tool hooks into
the server that allows for an uninterrupted connection to the server but
causes Cute FTP and WS_FTP to choke?

Thanks much for any input you may have.
