<iframe> and <ilayer>

using i frame for IE
and ilayer for nn

can you change the content by in each clicking on a link like usual frames?
target="{ifame or layer name}"
perhaps.

I know you can do it in iframe but ilayer?
because both are browser specific - the other will be ignored by either
browser?
