I don't know if I have a suggestion, but perhaps some explanation will help?

Netscape 6 is now using the Java 2 plugin from Sun (JRE 1.3, I believe).
All internal Java development by Netscape has been stopped. I believe there
are FAQs on the Sun site regarding compatability issues with previous Java
versions.

Have you tried 6.01? There are some minor tweaks and there may be better
java support in there. They got Flash running, so who knows what they did
to Java. :-)
