Agreed.  Perhaps because it's so radically different from the dinosaur.

Why wait?  If we, as designers, keep writing old, invalid code with lots of
kludges to try and please a minority that use an old browser (whether by
personal choice or otherwise), why would they even consider upgrading?  If
all movies were in black&white and without sound, why would one bother
getting a Colo(u)r TV with stereo sound?

It is possible to write a perfectly valid XHTML document that will display
in Netscape 3/4 and IE3/4.  It just won't LOOK the same as it does in MSIE5+
and Mozilla5/Netscape 6. Opera is a different story alltogether.

Depends what you call "works".   If a site's text displays and the links
work (in Netscape 4), which it should do in theory, when writing valid
(X)HTML, the site works. As long as it does not rely on JavaScript for
necessary functionality, it will work in Opera as well.  If presentation is
more important than the text, you may have a problem.
