Message Boards

I've got three websites that I'd like to put message boards up on. Two of
the sites were originally using ezboards, but due to server problems the
data was lost, and so I'm considering going down the route of running
message boards/forums using the included unlimited webspace and cgi/perl
scripting, enabling me to do full backup's of messages posted. (All 3
websites are hosted on  Unix servers with PHP4, but no Mysql as of yet).

Could you recommend source code's for message boards that are not too
technical to install and customisable? Or, is it possible to write my own
board using PHP4, and if so, would I need to have Mysql access?
