Fantigua:
I presume you are talking about the font face tag in your "profilefrm.htm
page.
The only thing I might suggest off hand would be to increase the font
choices by including similar acceptable fonts such as Helvetica, etc. In
addition I would remove the "MS" from MS Sans Serif. As is well known,
Netscape goes out of its way to appear unaware of anything made by
Microsoft.
I am kind of surprised that Netscape did not recognize Arial though. After
all, it is a "Mac" font as well as Windows.
The use of special fonts is always somewhat problematic. And of course,
individuals can override the font choices in their browsers. (At least to
some extent.) As many have pointed out before, HTML is NOT an exact page
layout language, but rather a rough guide for browsers to follow.
To position and/or call special fonts, one might consider either CSS or
supplying a downloadable page using PDF.
Now, don't get caught reading the silliness below or you may get yelled at
as bad as I will for writing it ... BUT:
In some ways--it would be a lot easier on most of us if "everybody" used
Internet Explorer 5.5 and be done with it. In fact, browser stats would
suggest that we are slowly be surely headed that way. To suggest that
Microsoft--or ANY corporation--should EVER set the practical standard will
cause distress to many. But--such things are often the case.
A few years ago--No less a prestigious firm than IBM even brought out a
whole new operating system that was "going to show Microsoft up". It did not
do Windows all that well and so--how many even remember the name of that
system??
So--I submit--that regardless of all the fuss many of us make--rightly or
wrongly--IE-5+ is rapidly becoming "the" standard. We can fight it. We can
cuss it--or as many already have--just go with the flow. I'm not saying it's
right--just that it seems to be--er--well -- --reality.
Whew -- Now I'm going out to lunch with my daughter and wait till the flames
die down.
Best wishes to all
