Cap'n Fuzzy
I've got a dumb question for ya.
First, the background:
I used Anybrowser.com ( http://www.anybrowser.com/siteviewer.html ) to
look at a site
( http://pages.prodigy.net/ray.henderson/index.html ) I'm working on.
The site displays exactly the way I want it to using the HTML 3.2 option of
Anybrowser. It also displays correctly using the HTML 4.0 Transitional
option. Just for the heck of it, I looked at it using the HTML 4.0 Strict
option. Everything fell apart with 4.0 Strict. By that I mean there
were borders around graphics, positioning was off, etc. ( BTW,
http://pages.prodigy.net/ray.henderson/validation.html lists the files of
the site which have validated with the W3C validator (HTML 4.01
Transitional) and I was viewing only validated pages with Anybrowser. )
Now for the question: (Keep in mind I'm just an HTML amateur)
Why does a page which validates (W3C HTML 4.01 Transitional) display
correctly with the HTML 3.2 and 4.O transitional options of Anybrowser, yet
look so different with the HTML 4.0 strict?? ***I assumed that anything
which validates 4.01 Transitional would display fine using 4.0 strict.***
Obviously that must not be the case.
I'm a little confused with all this HTML 3.2, 4.0 strict - transitional
stuff. Can ya help me understand this a little better??
I'm just an old retired geezer, living off dog food & road-kill, trying to
have a little fun & you guys are making life difficult for me with all this
3.2 - 4.0 - 4.01 - Msie 5.5 - Msie 5.0 - Net 5.0 stuff.
Thanks
Ray
