Actually, there were 2 URLs...both of which I grabbed quickly..1 is from my
hosting provider, and the other I got in the 1st page of results when
searching for Apache .htaccess tutorials"

I agree there is much more to the .htaccess than these two URLs show. I use
the configuration file frequently, as I need to specifically turn PHP4 on
for my HTML docs, reset default directory choices when I use Perl files as
default selections and for other fun things like low-security passwording. I
would love to see any links you might be able to add to the list...?

I apologize for not doing a more thorough collection of links...I was just
hoping to provide those in need with a jumping off place...:)

I checked the URL that was referenced and, to be honest, didn't find that it
was particularly clear on the uses of the .htaccess file. The .htaccess
file
can do many, many things. From specifying default "index" page extensions,
to
configuring password protected files, to automatically redirecting users to
another web site. Their is a host of things that it can do. I even use it
to
cause the server to parse ALL of my extensions as SSI files in certain
directories, regardless of their extension.
