G'day
I tend to agree with Bryan (only about 200%). However, he has not answered
your actual question
I too have used background music in the past, when I was still a hobbyist.
Some of my personal sites which I haven't updated for quite some time either
still have them. EMBED worked fine in IE4. Having said that, it does not
seem to be working in IE6. But perhaps I don't have the right plugin
installed (haven't missed it either)
BGSOUND is IMO the worst.option. Not because it doesn't work in Netscape
but because there's no way to turn it off (apart from killing the speakers
or with some javascript). Using OBJECT is the proper way to embed sounds,
movies etc in web pages (according to the W3C), but it is not supported by
Netscape 4 (not sure about 6).
In summary:
1. Don't use it unless you really really have to
2. Forget bgsound
3. If you have to put it in, use both object and embed
HTH
