Password Protecting and Pulling My Hair Out

Hello all,

I have created my .htaccess and .htpasswd files.  I even get the page to
prompt me for a password.  But no matter what I do the password prompt will
not except the password that I SET!  I do not think that this is the way it
is suppose to work.  I think the page is suppose to allow me to enter but
noone else, right?  Well, it wont even allow me in.  Now that is what I call
great protection.

Any ideas?
