One way of doing it would be to use the function fadeElement() in your
javascript, where the first image is a transparent .gif (a single pixel .gif
expanded to the required space would be best in terms of download) and the
second is the required picture. This could be set to operate onLoad as Chris
suggested.
The problems are that it is IE4+ only, and on Windows OS (so not even on IE4
for Mac or unix). And as Chris also said, if js is not disabled.
