opening wp files

hi all,

I got myself in the following mess:

I have to upload some text-files for a client, he got the files to me in
Word Perfect 6/8 format.
i don't have wp installed.... Should I get back to him with  a request for a
different format (he is probably hardly aware that there is such a thing as
the format of a file) or can I open these files in a different editor (I
have arachnophilia, which apparently doesn't like the idea since it shows
only garbage, I also have trial-versions of some other editors but I really
don't want to install them all). Tips, hints, please..., I really just want
to get this done without bothering my client again.
