Below is a message I read in the news group I belong to - I hope you find
some useful info - thought I would share it with you.
-Rhonda-
My sources of learning were :
http://builder.com/Authoring/Stupid/ss01.html
http://www.apacheweek.com/features/userauth
http://www.vortex-webdesign.com/pwprotect.htm
Perhaps I am slightly mistaken.....a relook at links #1 and #2 just
says not to put .htpasswd in the root directory, whilst #3 refers to
using a different directory.....I seem to remember reading it
somwehere else.....anyway I have a "redirect" index.html fie in the
password directory to resist snoopers.....
I created my .htaccess and.htpasswd files manually and by using
password encrypters at either of :
http://www.hypermart.net/members/utilities/general/passencrypt.gsp
http://home.earthlink.net/~jbrau/Hugnews/pwgenerator.html
I uploaded using FTP.....
