changing pictures

I have seen a web page where one picture was exchanged for another either by
mouseover or maybe it was timed, I wasn't sure.  Can this be done with more
than just two pictures?  I would like to rotate 6 pictures (with labels).
Is this possible?  How do you  write this?  Does it slow your page loading
down too much to make it a good idea?
