Hi, Jim,
Hmm. Ovals? This client is looking for the refinements of print design,
aren't they?! I usually tell my clients that the Web isn't as finely tunable
as print media. The snazzy look I get on the Web is different than what I
might try in print.
As far as I know, textarea and input boxes in forms are pretty hard to
format. I've changed background colors and the fonts (in some, Netscape 4
was very hard/impossible to work with).
If you want fancy things, you may want to try using php or some other
server-side scripting to create the data and format it. Then you could
present the text over backgrounds pretty easily. Since you're doing search,
you must have some sort of server-side scripting, don't you?
Most of my designs avoid heavy use of images because of the hit in download
time and the cost of server bandwidth.
