Just a scripting language. And that is something that allows you to instruct
a computer to perform certain tasks using specially worded code.
JavaScript is only one of many scripting languages, but it's useful in that
it is one that works on the viewer's computer instead of the server. It is
widely supported, but can be disabled on a per-case basis by viewers and so
is not really dependable for mission-critical functions. It can be quite
useful in supporting and enhancement roles, though.
