JavaScript alone can not write to the disk. It can launch a print window,
but it can't print without you pushing the OK button. It can manipulate
objects within the browser environment, but it can't step beyond the browser
of the browser, unless you count it's ability to launch a new window.

I believe the reference to email is mainly based on the fact that JS can
cause a new window to open, and that new window can have embedded Java or
Active-X components. This rightfully bothers people...:).

I can not think of ANY way for JavaScript to write anything other than a
harmless cookie to your hard-drive. If it's childishly simple, I must know
less about JavaScript than I thought I did. All books I have read on
JavaSCRIPT must be hiding anything to do with writing to one's hard-drive
under JavaScript control as I can't recall reading how to do it anywhere.
