Web cam for graphics?

Hi, all.  I have a client who needs some digital images of his art for his
site.  He was going to buy a digital camera for this, but a friend of his
told him a web cam would work just as well.  He likes that idea, because he
feels he would get more use out of the web cam.  I don't know how to advise
him on this.  He is an artist, so the image quality will be important.
Anyone know if a web cam will suit his purposes?
